RSA Sewer and Town of Gordonsville Water Rates

Over the last several weeks there's been a lot in the news and posted online about the new water and sewer rates. Here's some information I hope will help the citizens in and around the Town of Gordonsville.
In August 2025, I wrote about the water and sewer issues involving Gordonsville and RSA and asked that both organizations review their rates:
Since then, the Town revised its water rates and RSA approved new sewer rates for Gordonsville customers. So while the sewer billing transition to RSA has not been as smooth as hoped, we do have approved rates to evaluate.
Here are before and after water/sewer rate comparisons from 1000 to 8000 gallons in 100 gallon increments. Give them a look and see for yourself (and if you see something wrong, please let me know):
Here are some thoughts:
Water is a little complicated.
The Town changed both its rates and the way it bills for usage. It no longer rounds usage up to the next 1,000 gallons and now bills in 100-gallon increments.
At lower usage, many customers will pay much less. But at higher usage, some customers will actually pay more, particularly those Out of Town.
RSA reviewed its wholesale water rate as well and lowered it by a small amount. There simply wasn’t much there to cut.
The larger savings came from changes the Town made to its own retail rates and billing structure.
On sewer, the result is pretty clear.
RSA also changed its rates and moved to billing in 100 gallon increments. Under RSA’s approved rates, every customer in these comparisons will pay less than they would have before. That includes those Out of Town, who previously paid a substantially higher sewer rate than customers In Town.
